The FryDaddy is one of our favorite deep fat fryers. In fact, we recommend it as the best small deep fryer (read more here). Not only that, but success runs in it’s family tree. One of the top rated, most popular fryers, and one of our top picks, the Presto GranPappy, is just the slightly larger version of the FryDaddy.
It’s difficult to determine exactly where to start with this impressive unit, so we’ll give you some specs.
1200 Watts power the heating element that brings the 4-cup maximum oil capacity bucket up to the right temperature. The right temperature, in this case, is managed automatically by an internal thermostat, so you don’t have to worry about setting the right temperature. This is just fine for most things, as between 350 F and 375 F are the ideal conditions for deep frying.
The unit is just about 9 inches cubed, coming in at 9.7 x 9 x 8.5, so it will fit easily in your kitchen whether you’re using it or storing it (it’s also quite light, with shipping weight coming in at only 4 pounds).
Though it one of the smallest oil capacities of any model, the food to oil ratio is an impressive 1:1, meaning you can cook 4 cups of food at once. It might not be of great use for a dinner party of family and friends, but if it’s just the one or two of you, this is really all you need.
Unlike a lot of models, it does not have a basket to dunk and remove food with. It’s a very basic bucket shape, and so it comes with a slotted spoon with which to lower and raise food. Some people will like this, while others won’t, but at the very least you should be letting your food rest for a few extra minutes when you take it out in a drying rack or by patting it down with paper towel. If you leave it in the basket, it can drain away some of the oil if you wait a moment, but without it, it’s important to get that excess oil off some other way.
The entire thing is non-stick, so while you can’t throw it in the dishwasher, you can easily wipe down every single part. When you’re done, you can drain your oil back into it (if you re-use your oil and have filtered it a bit after use) and use the handy snap-close lid to seal it in.
We loved how popular the FryDaddy is with real users, particularly over at Amazon. Out of over 400 reviews from actual users, it has an excellent 4.3 out of 5 star rating, including 65% of reviewers who gave it a perfect 5 star review.
So, you get a convenient, high quality (Presto is one of the leaders in the industry), warranty-backed fryer that’s adored by those who use it, but that’s not even the best of it. It retails for around $30, but if you go through Amazon, we’ve seen it for as little as $18!
Like we said, we can’t recommend this unit enough, it keeps popping up as one of the best you can buy and if you’re just doing a bit of frying at once, you can’t go wrong for the price.
